19th Century Pill Silverer

Pill making is an exacting science, more so in the preparation. Once the Pharmacist had added his powdered drugs to an excipient and then mixed with a mortar and pestle, the Pill Mass was then  rolled into a  Pipe or Cylinder, either with the use of a wooden paddle or spatula.
The Pill Pipe/Cylinder would then have been placed on the brass grooves of a pill making machine, the top part would then have been placed on top of the Pill Pipe and pulled backward and forwards until small pills were created. The pills could then be finished off with a Pill Finisher to give them their round uniform shape.
Some times the pills would have gone through a final stage, that of Pill Silvering or Pill Coating. The finished pills would have been coated with a mucilage like acacia, placed in the Pill Silverer with either Silver or Gold leaf and shaken.

This is such a device! an outstanding offering, a 19th century Pill Silverer in practically pristine condition, the only defect being a very small indentation to the top of the lid (have to mention this). The patina is superb, the grain patterns matches both the base and lid meaning that this has been turned from one piece of wood, It is a hardwood, but I am unsure which.
here is your chance to own a piece of pharmaceutical history, Pill Silverer's are becoming extremely scarce, especially in good condition. This is a guaranteed investment for the future, own it now!
