19th Century Boxwood Cachet Compressor

On offer is a superb "Boxwood Cachet Compressor"

A cachet is a circular convex disc of wafer sheet made of two halves and containing the powdered drug within. The cachet was invented by Stanislas Limousin, a French pharmacist in the mid 19th century.

This fine example is an early cachet compressor, consisting of a long handled indented compressor and  a circular wooden base which is indented, and covered in brown felt. I have not seen another quite like this, I have  a cachet machine listed which has several compressors of varying sizes, some automatic ones are included.

HEIGHT:  13cms (base and compressor combined)

DAMAGE: None! the handle (which unscrews from the head) is in superb condition, and has fantastic patination, the base is in good condition, having mild wear to the base, and a few tiny indentations, caused during its working life.

Price: £15.00
