DENT.CARBOL: Carbolic Dentrifice
Phenol or Carbolic acid may be prepared from coal tar by fractional distillation and subsequent purification. It occurs in small, colourless, deliquescent crystals.
Carbolic is employed principally for its action on micro-organisms.
Carbolic Dentrifice Would have contained a mixture of Carbolic, Powdered Charcoal or Nux Areca plus aromatics.
This is a splendid jar! The Amber is uniform in colour and sets of the Pink Label to good effect. The stopper is hand blown then cut into facets, to the base is a polished pontil scar and the basal rim shows a mirriad of tiny scartches, caused during its working life.
