Chloroform Bottle
On offer is a pristine Amber chloroform bottle.
Chloroformum: Chloroform
Chloroform is trichloro-methane to which 2% of absolute alcohol has been added. Chloroform occurs as a heavy, colourless liquid, with a characteristic odour, and sweet, burning taste.
chloroform is the best known member of the group of drugs classed as general anaestheics. When inhaled it produces a feeling of warmth in the throat, which is followed by relaxation and, finally, unconsciousness. The great danger of chloroform inhalation is caused by the sudden absorption of a large dose during the early stages of administration. This either excites the medulla, and the heart ceases to beat as the result of vagal inhibition or the ventricles fibrillate possibly as a result of sympathetic stimulation.
Administered by the mouth, chloroform causes a sensation of warmth in the stomach and is a useful carminative in gastric flatulence and pain.
This is a very nice pristine condition poison bottle having all of its original paper labels. Both shoulders have POISON embossed and to the rear are vertical ribs.
