Extremely Rare Pure Gold Label Under Glass Powder Round.

These Chemist Rounds originated from the following Scottish Pharmacy:

HUNTERS PHARMACY.

ABERDEEN.

R. HUNTER CHEMIST.

On offer is a York Glass Co Flint Glass Lozenge Jar, with a "PATENTED PURE GOLD Label Under Glass", and polished pontiled decorative stopper.

PULV:RAD:IRID:Pulvis Radix Iridis: Powdered Orris Root

Orris rhizome is obtained from Iris germanica, Iris pallida, and Iris florentia, all of which are cultivated in Italy.

Orris rhizome yields by distillation with steam from 0.1 to 0.2% of a yellowish, aromatic substance, solid at ordinary temperatures, and known as oil or butter of orris. About 85% of this is myristic acid, the remaining 15% consisting of irone, methly myristate, oleic acid, esters etc.
Preparations of orris rhizome were formerly used as mild cathartics and diuretics. The powdered rhizome is a common ingredient of dentifrices and toilet powders.

York Glass Co made some of the most highly decorative and functional chemist bottles and jars, many of which had decorative stoppers and labels.

There were serious manufacturing defects with these labels, due to the delicate nature of the gold panel.

This is a superb item, it is in excellent condition, and is a scarce piece of pharmaceutical history!

HEIGHT:

21 cms to the top of the flat glass stopper.

DEFECTS:

Slight crinkling to the gold panel. There are no other defects present.

This is a very collectable item, and certainly an investment piece. Trust me these patented "Pure Gold Label Under Glass" pharmacy rounds are extremely dificult to obtain.
