TINCT:BENZ:CO: Tinctura Benzoini Composita: Compound Tincture of Benzoin: SYN~ Friars Balsam.

Benzoin is a balsamic resin obtained from Styrax Benzoin. Normally the trees do not produce benzoin, or any substance analogous to it, but the infliction of a wound sufficiently severe to injure the cambium results in the formation of numerous oleoresin ducts in which the secretion is produced. It is therefore a pathological product.

Sumatra benzoin probably contains lubanol combined with cinnamic or benzoic acid, together with benzoresinol.
The chief constituent of Siam benzoin is the benzoate of the alcohol lubanol. The drug contains about 36% of benzoic acid and about 3% of cinnamic acid.

Benzoin has the action of its constituents, benzoic acid, cinnanic acid, and resins. It is used externally, in the form of tincture diluted with water, as a mild stimulant and antiseptic in irritable conditions of the skin.
It is employed by inhalation with steam, chiefly as Compound Tincture of Benzoin with or without aloes, in laryngitis and bronchitis.

DAMAGE: None! The bottle is in superb condition, having no cracks, chips or defects whatsoever. The Glass label is in excellent condition, having no cracks, chips or defects present. The stopper is multifaceted and highly polished, there is a chip to the internal tip of the stopper, this can be seen quite clearly in the digital images, and in no way detracts from the overall presentation of the botte

To the base the York Glass Go Registration mark is embossed.
